Honestly, at first I really liked what he was doing. For a big hit, it was creative than most of the jargon we are all forced to hear on the radio and TV constantly. The song was certainly different, and he put on a pretty good performance on Saturday Night Live a few months ago – guess what song he did?

But now, that flame has burned out, and I really wish the guy would come out with something else on the radio already. I mean, he has a whole album out, so obviously he has written other songs. So where are they? I would hate to see him get sucked into the one-hit-wonder curse, although he seems to be going down that path already.

Even the guest singer that was on “Somebody That I Used To Know”, whose name is Kimbra has had more singles out than he does I’m pretty sure, and although she was pretty well-known in her native New Zealand, her role as a guest has let her produce more.

So please Gotye, if you read this – I like what you do, really! I’m not sure who decides who hears your songs or not, but tell them to move on already. You really don’t want to be the guy who is known for “that one song”. Look at what has happened to all of the other one hit wonders – they are just novelty acts now playing at small state fair stages and such. Keep us interested, please.

She makes funny people cry.  This might not sound like a plus for the singer, but it really is.  I just happened to catch an episode of Saturday Night Live on dish network Austin where they do a skit with the funny cast depicting what most people do when they hear Adele’s hit “Someone Like You,” cry.  It is the perfect cry song, and SNL portrayed what so many people actually do.  It was hilarious and true all at the same time.  Watch it to see what I mean.

Her voice is seriously perfect, even after vocal chord surgery. Last week she proved that the surgery on her voice did nothing to her incredible singing voice as she belted out her performance on the Grammys. Speaking of Grammys…

Adele is a winner. Just last week she was nominated for six Grammys. You might be asking, “how many Grammys did this amazing artist carry home with her after the awards show?” Well, that is a great question. Adele took home six Grammy awards. Yes, nominated six times and won six times. Sounds like a real winner to me.

She is a real person. Okay, I suppose all artists are real people, but they are not all real and down to earth like Ms. Adele. Adele’s body and weight has made some headlines in the past, but she has made it very clear since the beginning that she sings and she wants people to focus on her voice, nothing else. She has even shed some pounds, but still her fashion choices are demure and elegant. You will not find her in gaudy little getups with the likes of Rihanna and Lady Gaga. No, Adele is classy and classic which is just another reason she is that good.

In celebration of Adele’s amazing success thus far and the success to come, I would like to give a toast. We should all toast to a singer who can make the world cry with the sheer beauty of her voices and lyrics, a woman with a voice of an angel, a winner, and a real person living in a world of fakes and phonies. Adele, here’s to you.

Yesterday, as I was emptying out my storage unit at aspenstoragecenters.com, I heard on the radio that Gaga has said she relates to Marilyn Monroe, which got me curious about Gaga’s influences. Many of these might shock you, but the Madonna one didn’t surprise me one bit.  I mean, have you listed to that “baby I was born this way?”  It sounds just like Madonna’s “Respect Yourself.”  Same tune, everything.  So on to the graphic:

Everyone can relate to “cheers to the freekin’ weekend, I drink to that, yeah, yeah” This song represents the feeling that you get when you realize that it is the weekend and you are free from all of the thing that you have been looking to get away from all week.

This song is instantly recognized by its catchy rhythm and chorus that gets stuck in your head so that you will be singing it over and over again. But it’s not just another catchy song that doesn’t have a meaning behind it. When you listen to the lyrics you learn that the meaning behind the song. She sings about not letting things get you down, just keep your mind clear and look forward to the weekend.

He was born and raised in Louisiana and sports the rapper dread locks. He has always been a member of the rapper community. Lil Wayne is what everyone knows him as although his birth name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. He is about to have his 23rd birthday; in those years he has been wildly successful in his music career. To continue his great career is his new song “how to love”. This song is quick to get stuck in your head. The softness makes it easy to listen to when you are in a relaxed mood or if you want to crank it up and jam out. It tells the story of many people being in the situation of never knowing how to love and once you find the right person it just makes sense.

Hearing is a very important part of life, those that are fortunate enough to have good hearing at birth should take care of it because there are many people who aren’t so lucky. Some people have gotten complete or partial hearing loss through their own actions. Some more of a choice than others. Today’s country singers sing about a wide variety of topics including romantic love and lost love. There are also many sub-genres of country including: neo-country, country pop and alternative country. Leeann Rimes ,Tim Mcgraw and Carrie Underwood are among today’s most popular country singers.

Gospel is a genre of music that developed in the early 20th century. The founders of gospel wanted to give Christians an alternative form of music to listen to. God, Jesus and/or the holy spirit are often the subject of gospel songs. It is hard to believe that gospel music started with the singing of hymns because it has changed greatly over the past few years. Southern gospel is one of the many sub-genres of Gospel. Additionally, elements of gospel music have been combined with many other genres including country, rock and hip-hop. Some of today’s most popular gospel singers include: Kirk Franklin, Yolanda Adams, Marvin Sapp and the duo, Mary Mary.

Rhythm and Blues, which is also referred to as r&b, developed in the the 1950′s. It was largely influenced by blues artists. The meaning of the term “r&b” has changed greatly over the past few years. During the 1950′s and 60′s “r&b referred to music that included elements of gospel and soul. During the 1970′s and 80′s, r&b was a blanket term for soul and folk music. A new style of this music developed during the 1980′s and today people refer to it as contemporary r&b. Love is often the topic of r&b songs, but many singers choose to sing about socially-conscious issues. Some of today’s most popular r&b artist include: Keri Hilson, Usher, Mariah Carey and Cee-lo Green.

Rock n’ roll, which today is mostly referred to as rock, is a genre of music that developed during the 1940′s. The development of rock music was largely influenced by blues, gospel music and jazz. Sex and drugs have always been a popular topic of rock songs, which is one of the reasons that this genre of music has drawn a-lot of criticism. Nevertheless, it has retained its popularity throughout the years and most likely will always remain popular. Punk runk, progressive rock and alternative rock are sub-genres of this music. Sound Garden is among today’s most popular rock groups.

Schools are lacking in funds to be able to have enough instruments for those children who want to be able to learn to play. If something isn’t done about this, children everywhere may not have a chance to learn their musical talents at an early age. If this happens, then there will be a large decrease in the amount of music available for the general public to enjoy.

Parents should take time to educate their children about music. Even though the music you listen to is probably much different than what they enjoy, they will grow to respect the roots of the music that they love. If you are a musician, take time to talk to kids about what you do and how much fun you have doing it. Show the kids that music is something fun and important. Give them the opportunity to listen to the instrument they play and urge them to pick up one of their own if it is something that they may be interested in doing. Share your music and your experiences with the younger generations and they will be sure to spread it to the generations that come after them.

It is very important to make sure that we keep musical education in schools and in the home. It will make sure that music lasts for generations and doesn’t slowly die out. If music education comes out of schools then we are quickly looking at a big change in things that we take for granted now, like bands playing at football games. Keep music in our children’s hearts and minds so that we can all have a future with a beautiful melody in it.

311  ”Down”

Ah, 311 makes music that had to have been inspired by sunny days.  Their tunes just sound like summertime.  ”Down” is just one of my all-time favorite songs by 311, so of course it’s on my sunny summertime playlist.  It’s just a great song to have on your list and jam out to, and it will definitely keep your spirits up, way up.

This song is a mood booster for sure.  When the sun is shining and you need a good pick me up, grab a cold beverage and crank up the CCR.  Particularly, this little number “Bad Moon Rising.”  You will love it, no doubt.
